My linguistic expertise might be the lowest of all the contributors on this topic yet the two words ashamed and embarrassed are merely synonymous..!
I wish you were neither embarrassed nor ashamed for one of these is the mother of the other at times but most of times these are Siamese twins and i can assure you they are inseparable,
One of my former teachers once said "If God gave you a lemon for a gift, make lemonade out of it" I can see being black is a God given lemon-gift to you, make a juicy man!
In-case being black makes you embarrassed/ashamed just use it as an asset; I can assure you there are lots lemonade thirsty people out there for a black-lemon-made-drink. We have lots of things to offer not only the acidic taste and the wrinkled peel the western media portrays.
I also would like you to know political independence is not economic independence, it takes a party with a proper political movement or a gun with a full-filled magazine to get independence, yet it takes investments not the abundance of resources to get economic independence. Most of the poorest nations in the world are still in the process to achieve economic independence, vowing daily to invest in the greed eyes of the self proclaimed foreign investors but known corruptors.
You speak of Africa of -- ignorance, poverty, injustice, and corruption-...! Really…? Are these the word that can describe this beautiful untamed continent?
Yes you might be right in your own perspective but how long have we led ourselves post independence? how and for how much was looted from us in the decades of slavery and colonialism and now the neo-economic colonization?? have we led ourselves more years than we were ruled and oppressed and changed mentally to believe we cant do anything?

Totally love the God given Lemon gift- I have made lemonade sometimes and I make it extra sweet; just to prove I am not a stereotype, but a God-Fearing, Educated, Young Black Lady.

ReplyDeleteThe world is the way it is. Black people have to work extra hard to combat stereotypes and other people's low expectations of them; that is, they have to make lemonade. But, that's just the way it goes. Accept it, make the best out of it and move on.
